A single -handle tub/shower faucet is the simplest type to maintain and operate. The single handle controls both the mix of hot and cold water and the gate diverter controls the flow. You may, at some point, need to replace your setup. Here are the simple steps to do so.
Step 1 Remove Handle
Using a screwdriver unscrew the screws found on both the middle of that handle and the frame of the escutcheon. Once done both the handle and the escutcheon should slide off.
Step 2: Turn Off Water Supply
Before going any further you will want to first turn off the water supply to the shower. There are two ways to do so. You can either turn it off via the built in shut off valves or at the main shutoff valve.
Step 3: Remove Bonnet Nut
Using an adjustable wrench unscrew and remove the bonnet nut but turning it counter clockwise.
Step 4: Remove Cartridge Assembly
For this step you will require a set of channel type pliers. Using the pliers grasp the end of the valve and pull gently.
Step 5: Clean And Replace
Using clean water flush the valve body to remove any built up sediment. Inspect the o-rings and, if needed, replace them at this time. Lastly, reassemble the unit and test its functionality.
