Buying a new toilet and don’t know where to start? We can help. Over the past few years toilets have changed quite a bit. You can now find one to fit all of your needs and styles. Different sizes, different shapes and different features can be found to suit what it is your looking for. Newer models are built to be more durable and efficient leaving them less likely to clog (Bonus!). Of course on top of all that each will have its own unique price point. So how do you know which is the right one for you? Well, thats a decision only you can make but allow us to outline some of the different types of toilets on the market today so that you can make an informed decision. First we will cover the design/style aspect.
Two-Piece Toilets
Have two separate parts to them. One is the water tank found on the back and the other is the bowl itself. This style of toilet is much more common than the other models and in most cases is found at a lower price point.
One-Piece Toilets
Unlike the two-piece toilets the one-piece has both the bowl and the tank combined into one seamless unit. They have a cleaner more modern look to them but come at a bit of a higher price point than the two-piece model.
Elongated Bowls
This style of toilet is approximately 2″ longer than your regular style toilet bowl. It also costs a little more than the standard round bowl.
Elevated Toilets
These types of toilets tend to sit up approximately 3″ higher off the ground. The standard toilet is usually 15″ off the ground while the elevated design has the bowl approximately 18″ off the ground.
Now that we have a better idea of style, lets dive into the two choices you have when it comes to the types of flush mechanisms that are offered.
Gravity-Assisted Toilets
This allows the water to fall down from the elevated tank into the bowl itself.
Pressure-Assisted Toilets
This type of flushing mechanism relays on one of two things: compressed air or a water pump to boost the power of the flush. Keep in mind that this type of flushing mechanism is relative expensive. However, these types of toilets eliminate the possibility of multiple flushes reducing your water usage which is a long term cost saver.
