Diverter Valve

So What Is A Diverter Valve

Some showers have a three handle setup. One to control hot water, one to control cold water and a third handle to control the diverter valve. The diverter valve control knob is usually the one located in the centre of the three handle setup and it controls the water flow to either the spout or shower head depending on the setup of the installation.

A dysfunctional diverter valve can cause a weak flow of water and if you notice that you are not getting the proper pressure from your shower head you will want to repair or replace your diverter valve as soon as possible. In most cases there are 2 types of diverters: compression or cartridge faucet valves. It is very important to figure out which type of diverter you have as it will determine your actions for fixing. If you have a cartridge type diverter you will not want to bother thinking about repairing it and go right ahead and replace it. However, if you have a compression type divert you can repair it which will will get into full detail in our next article.
